Mailbox care
Our mailboxes are exterior-grade powder-coated aluminum and stainless steel, built for the outdoors. A few minutes of care each season keeps the finish looking new for years.
Four habits that protect the finish
Wipe it down regularly
Every month or quarter, wipe the mailbox with a microfiber cloth and a mild soap-and-water mix to clear away chemicals, salt and mineral buildup. Wipe out the inside too, including the magnetic catch tab.
Near the coast or road salt? Clean more often
Saltwater and road salt speed up aging. Over time, salt buildup can dull the finish or leave it looking chalky, so more frequent cleaning keeps it from settling in.
Aim sprinklers away
Sprinkler water can carry harsh minerals and chemicals that damage finishes. Point sprinkler heads away from your mailbox and post.
Expect a little dirt
These are outdoor products. At the street or in landscaped beds, water, dirt, salt and debris will splash onto the finish. That's normal — regular cleaning keeps it from causing premature wear.
How to clean each surface
Powder-coated surfaces
Wipe down with a microfiber cloth and a mild multi-surface cleaner like Simple Green. Don't use harsh or abrasive chemicals or rags.
Stainless steel surfaces
Put a small amount of stainless steel cleaner/polish on a microfiber cloth and polish as needed. Keeping stainless clean and polished prevents surface rust from developing.
Discontinued finishes
Metalgrain: using a microfiber cloth, apply a small amount of UV protectant every few months, or as needed, to keep the finish from fading.
Wood: lightly sand with a medium-grit foam sanding block, wipe off all sawdust, then apply a small amount of wood refinishing oil with a stain application pad.
